History of Cross Plains, Tennessee
Cross Plains is a small rural community rich in history. Its population in 2023 is believed to be approximately 1950 people. The town was first settled in 1778 by Thomas Kilgore, an American Revolutionary war veteran and the town was known as Kilgore Station.
It is a farming community and was best known for its tobacco farming due to the rich soil common in Roberstson County. You will find many open fields and farmland as you drive through this quiet town.
One of its historic buildings, built in 1915 was home to Thomas Drugs which still operates today and is located at the only intersection in Cross Plains. It is known for its famous soda shop.
The Trash and Treasures Festival is held every June and the streets are lined by local residents selling their wares. This event has grown over the years and people come from all over to find a hidden treasure at this perpetual yard sale.
