Where is Old Hickory, Tennessee?
Old Hickory, Tennessee is located in the eastern part of Davidson County on Old Hickory Lake and is a suburb of Nashville. Old Hickory is approximately 14 miles from downtown Nashville, TN. In 2022, the town boasted a population of just over 24,000 people. There are numerous waterfront properties as well as those without a lake view. Old Hickory is the home of President Andrew Jackson and his historic home, The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson was known as "Hickory" due to his tough demeanor.
Old Hickory was originally formed as a rural farming community, but at the start of World War 1, the DuPont Corporation moved in and built a munitions plant to support the war effort. It later became the Old Hickory Powder Plant and was the largest explosive plant at the time employing over 30,000 people. Although DuPont no longer has a presence here, many of the original buildings from the original plant have been repurposed and now house a variety of businesses and organizations.
