History of Springfield Tennessee

Springfield, Tennessee is a historic community located in Robertson County. It is the County Seat and became a city in 1796. The first courthouse was built in 1799.

Rich in agricultural production, the area is known as the "home of the world's finest dark fired tobacco", due to its rich soil and climate. Other crops include, wheat, corn, hay and soybeans. Robertson County is also ranked as a top county for beef and dairy cattle.

In the early years, the county was once known for its fine whiskey, and industry that reached its peak in the 1880's and later died with prohibition.

Springfield, TN is a charming place with a home town atmosphere and just a short drive from the all the amenities of Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville offers Broadway shows, the symphony, professional and college sports, shopping and dining, as well as the country music history that Nashville is famous for.
