History of Tims Ford Lake
Tims Ford Lake is a reservoir located in southern middle Tennessee. The lake was created by the construction of the Tims Ford Dam on the Elk River, which was completed in 1970. The dam was built by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide flood control, hydroelectric power, and recreational opportunities to the area. The town of Alwalt was completely submerged in the process.
The building of the dam resulted in the creation of Tims Ford Lake. It has over 240 miles of shoreline and almost 11, 000 acres. It is a popular destination for fishing, and specifically stripe bass, boating, camping, and other recreational activities.
Tims Ford Lake attracts thousands of visitors each year and provides a source of revenue for local businesses. The lake has also played a significant role in the development of the surrounding communities, including Winchester, Lynchburg, Tullahoma, Manchester, and Estill Springs, which have prospered over the years. Overall, Tims Ford Lake has played an important role in the economy of the southern Middle Tennessee area, and it continues to flourish as a popular destination for homeowners, businesses and visitors.
